Richard E. Grey, Jr.

Richard E. Grey Jr, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 27,2018, at the Reading Hospital. Richard was the son of the late Richard E. Grey, Sr. and Lucy A. (Green) Grey. He was the husband of Mary J. (Stern) Grey. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in August. Richard was born in Aldie, Va on October 13, 1923. Richard was raised in Pottstown, Pa. where he attended school. He graduated from Pottstown High School in 1941.  Richard served in the US Army from 1942-1945 in the 27th Calvary 92nd Infantry as a Sergeant. Richard was baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Pottstown. Later joined Bethel AME Church in Reading, where he remained a faithful member and member of Men's Choir. Richard was a member of the George Washington Carver Post #962 in Reading, Pa., as well as a member of the Protective Order of Free and Accepted Masons, Victor Lodge #73. Richard was employed at Bethlehem Steel Inc. for 30 years and Farmers Pride Poultry for 12 years before he retired.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary. He is the father of Joyce Foster of Pottstown, grandfather to Stacey Josey, Darren Josey, Kemp Josey of Wilkes Barre, Pa. and Shannon Josey of Pottstown, Pa., as well as seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Richard is also survived by his sister Jennie G. (Grey) Beck, of Philadelphia, Pa; two brother- in- laws, Joe Miller of Pottstown and Kermit Stern of Reading; one sister- in- law, Gloria Marr of Reading; several nieces and nephews, including his special nieces and nephew, Mary Jo (Key) Smith, Goddaughter, Gina Key and Karen Howard (whom he resided with) and Jan Michael Howard. Also surviving are his church family and friends and other relatives to numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Bethel AME Church 330 W. Windsor Street, Reading, PA. 19601. Reverend Alberta Jones is the pastor of Bethel AME Church. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am with the service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Berks County memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville, Rd. Fleetwood, PA. 19522. Please keep his wife and family in your prayers.
